Construction Program Helps Students Build a Better Future

September 14, 2018

To help the graduates of the Success Training Employment Program as well as the community at large, we recently partnered with Valencia College’s Accelerated Skills Construction Program. The Construction Program met for six weeks at our Orlando UP Center, where students spent time both in the classroom and on a simulated job site learning site safety, construction math, proper tool usage and project planning. Seven students—two of whom were also STEP graduates—earned certifications to help them excel in the growing construction industry. “The Construction Program helped me prepare to not just get a job, but a career that will help...

Dana’s Story

September 14, 2018

“Before STEP it seemed like there was no hope. I’d mail out countless applications while searching for a job, and then get no call or email in return. A few weeks in, my Coach helped alert me to a few openings she thought I would be good at, and I immediately jumped at the chance. I ended up having four job...

Back to School Clothing Swap

September 14, 2018

Back-to-School shopping can be an overwhelming task for any family—but especially for those in need. With the help of our partners at Discovery Church, Disney and Integrative Physical Medicine, we recently hosted our Inaugural Back-to-School Clothing Swap. The swap, held at our Orlando UP Center, encouraged families to bring in a bag of their gently-used children’s clothing and swap it with a bag of new-to-them, age-appropriate clothing. Our first swap was very popular, and made it possible for more than 100 children to start their school year with confidence and dignity.
