What is STEP?
Success Training Employment Program (STEP) is a six-week program dedicated to enhancing job-readiness skills. The first six weeks is made up of in-class discussion-based learning in the areas of Emotional Intelligence, Empowerment Training, Workplace Skills and Job Acquisition. Following graduation of this first phase, students spend six weeks paired with a job coach (as needed) to further develop job skills through internships and technical education certification.
Who is Welcome?
Any and every adult 18+ is welcome to participate. The content is designed for those interested in making a career change, who have experienced difficulties finding or keeping a job, or interested in improving their current employment position.
By participating in STEP, a close community develops to encourage personal growth. STEP students also earn points for their accomplishments, which may be redeemed for Grocery Program vouchers, bus passes, gas cards or tuition assistance. Participants also have access to social networks created with potential employers in the Central Florida community.
STEP classes take place on the UP Orlando campus daily Monday through Friday, from 8:50 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Enrollment for new sessions takes place in January, March, May, July, and September. The next orientation date for new students is Thursday, August 10 at 10:00 a.m. To register, click here
