What Is STEP?

Getting a Job is Hard.

You don't have to do it alone!

Whether you are unemployed or underemployed, our Employment Programs are designed to assist you in securing the dream job and financial stability you deserve!

Our Success Training Employment Program (STEP) is a FREE 3-phase program that provides participants with valuable skills, confidence, and knowledge to help secure employment and reach financial goals. In 2024, we helped 90 low-income individuals obtain job skills training, gain employment, and increase their household income. We had 60 graduates become successfully employed. The combined total income for our employed graduates equaled $1,706,740. That equates to over $2.5 million in ‘social cost avoidance’, which refers to expenses the county would incur for things like unemployment, rental/utility assistance, emergency room usage and criminal justice costs.

We also host career events at the UP Center featuring dozens of our career partners. These are incredible, not to be missed events for those seeking employment across a variety of different fields.

Thanks to our Employment Programs, we’re able to connect participants with a variety of life-changing tools, skills, and opportunities, including resume building, professional development, networking, and more!

STEP to SuccessStep to Success

“I never thought I would be on the verge of being homeless- I was devastated to be honest. I got two girls- 5 years old and three. I had to move back in with my mom, unfortunately. Me and my girlfriend lost our apartment, she had to stay home with the kids. I had my car payment, and pretty much it was either rent or more car payment to get back and forth to work. I ended up losing my car and my apartment and it has been kind of hectic ever since then. I haven’t been able to find work since then.

I wasn’t used to this at all, I am used to always having an income, always having a full time job; especially always being a support system and just being there no matter what they need. Just them asking me for something and now having to tell them, ”oh I don’t know” or “let me ask someone else” or “give me a little bit” it is heartbreaking. I know if its hard for me it has to be 10 times harder for them because they’re not used to us being around a bunch of people and having to walk in the heat. Thank God there were people there just to give us some water. Now I’ve gotten into a few programs with UP Orlando to help get me back on my feet”
